The Maze Runner by James Dashner

The Glade is a bizarre place free of adults. The enclosed structure has everything the Gladers need to survive: living quarters, gardens, a jail, slaughterhouse and even a jail. Outside the Glade is the Maze, a labyrinth of walls that change every night once the doors to the Glade close. Every day Runners depart the Glade and run miles through the Maze, attempting to map the ever-changing pattern and find a way out. Not all Runners return. Some fall victim to the Grievers - part animal, part mechanical killing machines - if they do not make if back to the Glade before the doors close.

Thomas is the most recent arrival to the Glade from the Box. Like all Gladers before him, he arrives devoid of memories with only a first name. Once he arrives, strange things begin happening and the Gladers become suspicious. The day after Thomas's arrival, a girl shows up in the Box. Teresa is the first girl to show up in the Maze and she somehow has triggered The End. Things seem vaguely familiar to Thomas, but will he be able to solve the puzzle of the Maze?

The Maze Runner was a page-turner from the start. I always find it amazing how people think up these kinds of things. I was intrigued and did not want to put this book down. I was unaware when choosing this book to read that it was part of a trilogy, now I'm looking forward to reading The Scorch Trials.
